The moment I read it, I knew it wouldn’t stand. When the Smithsonian acknowledged (as opposed to announced) that it would screen a documentary based on the curiously named “intelligent design” theory of evolution, it was clear that this would not be a one-day story.

Sure enough, a mere one day later, the Smithsonian announced that it would drop its co-sponsorship of the screening and return the $16,000 donation from the propagators of this theory, another dubiously named organization called the “Discovery Institute.” No doubt the $16,000 was a drop in the bucket compared to what the institution stood to lose in donations (and esteem) from the many deep-pocketed patrons of real science.
